Connection
We are facing unprecedented times today in the face of a global crisis. This new world will undoubtedly challenge us and bring as yet undefined change. I believe today as much as I did fifteen years ago when I founded Breakpoint Human Capital Management that when you're working away with the right people at something that matters long enough that an incredible opportunity is created.
We are all psychologically, emotionally, and cognitively hard wired for connection. Connection gives us purpose and meaning in our lives. It is why we are here, wherever you’re here is. Being here as members of a now more than ever a common global community demands that we realize the opportunity to live with courage and purpose. That we show up, let ourselves be seen and make a connection.
Purpose. Making a connection is complicated but simple. Connection is created between people when they feel seen, heard and are valued. As leaders we have the opportunity to, despite at times physical distance, reach out and let those people in our organizations, in our homes, in our communities know that they are seen, heard and valued. Let them know that they are a part of something special. That simple process is important because it reduces anxiety and fear.
Courage. The next days and months will be about learning and growing together. It will call on each one of us to be the best of who we are. In our working lives we need to reach beyond the traditional notions of management and create climates of respect, feedback and trust. It will mean a continuous effort to develop new skills. It will mean being sensitive to people’s life challenges. It means knowing people want to do well and believing that they will.
There is no triumph without error.
Be strong. Be well.
