The Tug on the Line
I still say today that it's pretty amazing when a successful business happens. When you're working away with the right people at something that matters for long enough, it creates an incredible opportunity. In 2005, I made a meaningful pivot. I opened the doors of Breakpoint Human Capital Management as a small, independent alternative to traditional large management consulting firms. I remain passionate about delivering growth and sustainable value through a partnership with executive leaders that are dedicated to the execution of the investment strategy. Whether a business is in crisis or is simply facing an operational challenge, we have the experience to provide strategic advice to help identify and prioritize the most critical issues, establish a leadership solution, and deliver tangible results quickly.
That experience allowed me to work with aspiring leaders who were setting direction and guiding the organisation's activities to achieve its goals. The conditions of success are shifting rapidly in a changing marketplace. The conversation has changed. People want to perform but want a more of a voice in how the work gets done. They want to bring their whole self to their work. Leaders willing to have these conversations are prepared and are learning. They are active participants in a living experiment of doing the hard work with less control. The power now comes out of diversity. Diversity of thought, skill, experience, and backgrounds. It's individuals working in teams but seen by their leaders as individuals. Individuals who come together ignited with a common purpose. Increasingly, who you are will align you to what you do, why you do it, and where you do it. The challenge for future-focused leaders will be to express their culture and values in profoundly authentic ways.
The future is here, and we have a chance to make business great for people. That's exciting.
