People shaping success
As a Human Capital executive and business leader I am increasingly sensitive to the conversation occurring regarding how to bring business and the broader social, environmental and economic needs of the community together. Historically value creation in business was narrowly viewed focused on the metrics of short term financial performance. This approach missed the importance of People as key to an organization's long term success. Today forward looking companies are taking the lead creating shared value solutions that are reconnecting company success with social progress and creating engaging cultures in organizations for People. The idea of shared value is not philanthropy. It is centred in the business strategy as an important pillar of building organizations that recognize the need for collaboration, trust, and efficient alignment to their brand, to their customers, and to their communities.
The first step to change is simple. It starts with knowing as an organization who you are, what you do, what challenges you solve, who you serve, and what makes you unique. This will give your organization the clarity and focus you need to dedicate the resources of the business to what matters. It will also create a boldness of action that is a compelling platform for a renewed People strategy. A strategy that reinforces a clear employee value proposition and acknowledges the socio-cultural realities of your community and is directly supportive of achieving the organization goals. The time has always been now.
