Faster

We work with CEO’s, executives, boards and high-potential employees, to accelerate readiness for change and position the organization for increased competitive advantage. One of the most important lessons learned from our work is that the quicker we face the current reality and understand the change, the faster we can build high performance organizations. This has been well documented by psychologists and others studying human performance.

Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why:

They immediately begin to recognize, acknowledge, and even accept the reality of their situation… They move through denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance very rapidly.

It starts with great leadership. Leadership is about change. Having a formal strategy and game plan for high performance is not enough. The single most important factor in building a high-performing organization is leadership. A strong leader understands that their most important role is to define what the organization will be, why it will matter, and how people can help. The right leadership builds change capability as a source of competitive advantage. Their people are agile, focused with the flexibility to embrace new ways of working in an age of constant digital disruption and high-paced evolution.

If leadership is about change, what should a leader to do when faced with resistance?

1.   The best tools for leaders of change is to first understand that the signs of resistance to change from foot-dragging to petty politics are easily identified.

2.   The second tool is to understand why people are resistant to change. People resist change for reasons ranging from loss of control, loss of prestige, competence, perceived increase in work, or resentment to new leadership.

3.   The third tool for leaders of change is action. The faster the better. Working with CEO's, Boards and great executive leaders no one has ever said we should have moved slower. Action includes engaging people in the change, giving them ownership, creating certainty with clear and simple steps, staying focused on the important things, and importantly helping people maintain their dignity by honoring their past successes. Action also means respectfully transitioning people out of the organization that are not a part of the new structure and strategy.

At Breakpoint Human Capital Management, we understand that it’s not just about making a great business with people, it’s about making a business great for people. It’s time.
